This festival fell on the 14th of May in Australia in 2010. (For information on the Southern Wheel of the Year, click label at end of post.)
I have been sick for months and, during those months, all my festivals and their rituals have been very cut down and simple.
This year, as last year, I had a special dinner for my ancestors. I lit a candle for them and set an empty place. I recited the names of all my deceased relatives that I know of and told them what they meant to me when they were alive and what I knew about the ones I had never met.
The ritual itself was fairly simple. I lit a candle for the dying god and thanked him for dying at Samhain so he could be re-born at Winter Solstice and so renew the cycle of life.
Then, within the ritual, I extinguished the god’s candle and it will remain on the altar until it is relit at Winter Solstice.
