Sex

Any person who says you have to have sex with them or with anyone else to be a real Pagan/Neopagan is lying.

There are a few people who will say anything to make others have sex with them. They do it because they have inadequate personalities and enjoy forcing themselves on other people.

No person of any religion can have sex with you when you don't want to for any reason. If someone says you have to have sex to become a real Pagan/Neopagan, get away from them and stay away from them.

The sort of people who want sex for pretending to make you a real Pagan/Neopagan usually target teenage girls because they think teenage girls are stupid.

Think about it before you say yes. If this person wasn't saying he was Pagan/Neopagan or offering to initiate you, you would know straight away he was bad news.

To be a real Pagan/Neopagan, find a safe group to join.

The Great Rite

The Great Rite is the sexual union of the goddess and the god at Beltane. Beltane is one of the most important festivals of the Neopagan year, as its purpose is to renew the cycle of life.

In the Great Rite the goodess is made pregnant and the new god grows inside her. At Samhain the old god dies and at Yule (Winter Solstice) the new god is born and so another year begins.

Sex is the theme of Beltane because sex with the god is how the goddess gets pregnant. Beltane is a celebration of new beginnings.

As Neopagans we celebrate and represent this with the Great Rite in symbol, with the depiction of an athame in a chalice, pregnant women, with seed pods (the goddess) and sticks (the god) from the garden and whatever other suitable symbols we choose.

The Great Rite in symbol
At the altar, as part of the Beltane ritual, the athame, a symbol of the god, is plunged into the chalice, a symbol of the goddess.

The Great Rite in truth
The Great Rite in truth is simply sexual intercourse between humans as part of the celebrations at Beltane. Nobody is obliged to carry out the Great Rite in truth. Some people like to have special Beltane sex, some don't. It is a matter of personal choice.

If anyone at a Beltane festival tries to have sex with you against your will or tells you should have sex with them as part of Beltane, report them immediately to the people in charge of that festival. It is very likely they are an intruder and will immediately be made to leave.

There is nothing in real Neopaganism that says you must have sex.
